This multi-coloured bird gets full SATB treatment. The ‘darting’ quality will be enhanced if the rhythmic emphasis falls on the second beat of the accompaniment lines (as indicated in bars 1-4). The words might feel like a mouthful but sing slowly at first and the tongue and lips will rapidly pick up the pace. If your choir is short of blokes (!) when the basses take over the tune in bar 13 the tenors could join them and some of the altos could easily take over the tenor line. The final bars can crescendo and end with a flourish.

Once learned, you may want to add skipping movements or even a circle dance, weaving in and out and generally having fun. This takes a lot of puff!
